Where am I?

While that was going on, Osiris’s eyes opened. He was in a foreign land, a place unknown to him. It looked like Paan, having its atmosphere and terrain. The skies were red, and the clouds were absent. The terrain was rough, almost rugged to be exact. Composed mostly of deformed mountains and thick thorny black trees that bore no fruit. This place was almost barren, as though it was incapable of sustaining life. There were barely any animals present here. Neither was there any water here.

As he woke up, Osiris found himself amid a great congregation. Hundreds of thousands, even reaching up to the millions encompassed him. These people were from all races. Here, both the great men/women of valor and the commoners who had nothing were equal. Even people from different races were no different either. Everyone here wore the same clothes; a purple and red rob which had a hood to cover the identities of the individuals. The only difference between these people was the pattern engraved on the back of their robes. They were all lined up in multiple straight lines walking towards a certain direction.

Curious to find out where the people were going, Osiris decided to follow them. As they walked, no one spoke to each other. They were all minding their own business as they made their way in a straight line. Some people carried a chest in their hands. While others, a herd of cattle or simply nothing.

While they walked, Osiris started to feel unbelievable pain. The soil of the ground was hot and burned with searing pain with each progressive step. To make things worse, there was no sun here. Only a red moon lit up the whole place. Which means that the place he’s in was naturally hot.

Desperate to find a solution, Osiris peeped towards the side to see how long he had to walk. Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t as he thought. There was still a long line ahead of him. The scene of a long line brought a lot of disappointment to Osiris. Saddened, he tried to communicate with the person in front of him. However, it seemed like no matter how he tried to speak with the person, they didn’t reply. He even tried to touch the person in front of him, instead, Osiris’s hands ended up passing through the person. After a few more tries, Osiris gave up and continued his journey.

A while later, Osiris approached another place. It was quite different from the usual sight he was used to. This time, there was a huge mountain ahead of him. It was concave in shape and was surrounded by black larva. However, despite the black larva, there was a bridge ahead of this mountain. It was the only way in and out of the cave. The bridge was not too small nor long. It was just enough to contain everyone.

As they approached the cave, the features of the cave became more visible. The outside of the cave was actually beautiful. There were statues of two figures on each side of the cave entrance. The first statue to the right was of Set, the ancient Egyptian god of chaos, storms, deserts, and Violence. The second statue to the left was of Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of mummification, the afterlife, Cemeteries, tombs, and the underworld. Each statue seemed to be real, having blazing eyes which seemed to be blood-thirsty.

Below the statues, there were figures who looked like reapers. They were cloaked in darkness, only revealing a skull as their head. In their hands, they held a scythe. These people are the harvesters’. They are responsible for retrieving and collecting dead souls. In this case, they were protecting their harvest, making sure no soul ‘escaped’ death or did anything cunning to ‘cheat’ death.

At the foot of the mountain, stood an enormous door. It was thousands of feet tall. It had huge strange black giant stones which served as door frames. While the actual doors were made of huge crimson stones. Surrounding the gates were thousands of Dark armored knights. These dark knights were high-ranking demons who, in this case, were tasked to protect the mountain. They were extremely tall, with huge bat-like wings on their backs. In their hands, they held all sorts of weapons, ranging from bows and arrows to special magical blades.

As Osiris and the rest walked into the cave, they were all shocked by what they saw. Inside, there were four giant pillars. Each pillar had someone seated on them, these people were the Hades Judges. They were responsible for judging the souls of the dead to determine their destination after death. Below the Hades Judges was a circular podium. It was in this circle where each soul will stand for their judgment.

According to the customs, each soul would stand in the circle and identify themselves. Once Identified, the individual will then be tried based on the events and actions they carried out in their lifetime. If the individual has committed so many crimes and is unable to defend their actions, they can plead for a weighted trial. During this trial, the hearts of the deceased will be weighed against a feather (on the Ma’at’s scale of justice). If the heart of the individual is lighter than the feather or equal to the feather, the individual will be exonerated and granted a portion in the afterlife; the resting place of the dead. If the individual’s heart is heavier than the feather, both what they have(their soul), and hearts, will be given to Ammut; a beast with a crocodile head, lion’s mane, hippo’s body, and leopard paws.
