Chapter 11 Let's Get Married
Seeing that Mia kept her head lowered and dared not look at him, Dylan could not help laughing.
"Is this your silent rebellion? Do you see me as a beast or what?"
It was amusing that the girl maintained quiet without nodding or shaking her head. No wonder Luke cherished her so much.
"Mr. Powell, please just say whatever you have to say."
Although this man helped her during the day, Mia realized how oppressive the vibe he gave off was when they were close and alone in the room.
Luke could not even hold a candle to Dylan.
Dylan's speech and deportment were full of shrewdness. Mia was clear that she could not afford to offend him. Also, she was not interested in trying to be clever and making fun of herself.
Even Luke was inscrutable to Mia, let alone Dylan, who was way more abstruse than the former.
Sitting across from Mia, Dylan did not respond to her words. He looked at Mia quietly for a good while and did not take his eyes off her until they creeped the woman out. "Let's get married!"
What?
Mia frowned and looked at Dylan with confusion. "Mr. Powell, that's not funny at all."
How could the man actually offer to marry Mia? She was not a pretty princess. And they had only met each other once. The chance that Dylan wanted to marry Mia was lower than winning a lottery.
With his status, Dylan could get any women he wanted. Why the hell did he choose Mia to marry?
It was a fantasy.
Mia just treated the man's words as a joke.
Dylan fixed his deep eyes up Mia seriously. He was not joking.
"I'm not joking. Think about it."
Dylan made his attitude clear.
But the more serious he was, the stranger Mia felt.
Mia was acutely aware of her own status and that marrying into a wealthy and influential family was nothing easy. A young woman like her with nothing to rely upon could not afford to offend them.
So...
"Mr. Powell, there is nothing for me to think about. I have self-knowledge."
Her story with Luke had taught Mia a hard lesson.
She did not even think about marrying Luke in the first place. Even so, Luke's mother was irritated. If Mia indeed married Dylan, she would probably die young in tragedy.
She had not got her revenge yet. She had to survive.
"No, you don't have enough self-knowledge."
Dylan interrupted Mia's flow of thoughts in a mellow and affirmative tone of voice. He first crossed his legs, then crossed his fingers and propped his elbows on the armrests of the single sofa, like a king waiting for his prey to give in.
He then added, "If you marry me, I will help you to revenge! I will make you the queen of the showbiz so that you can look down on your enemy and trample her underfoot!"
"Why?" Mia asked.
Frankly, the man's mention of her enemy tempted her.
She could not go back to the University. Thus, the road to stardom for Mia would become forbiddingly difficult.
If Mia took a regular route, she understood that it would be too hard to surmount Bella.
Without a career of her own, it would be even harder for her to look down on Nova.
If she could get enough opportunities, the showbiz would respond to her with a lot of money in a rather short period. That was why she chose the acting department in the first place.
She wanted to make money fast and give her mother a good life.
Unfortunately, she foolishly gave up that opportunity to Bella...
If she had known that she would be trapped in this situation, she would never have believed in Bella's disguise.
Bella was the young lady of the Wilson Family. Although the Wilsons were not members of high society yet, they were somewhere close to it.
What about Mia?
Mia literally had nothing. It was so pathetic of the young woman to take her friendship with Bella into consideration when her so-called friend laughed at her behind her back.
Staring at the man before her, Mia asked why seriously.
Undoubtedly, the man caught Mia by her weakness. The woman was badly tempted even though she knew Dylan was not someone she could afford to offend.
Mia was aware that she should turn Dylan down. However, she was reluctant to miss the precious opportunity.
Knowing that the woman was about to swallow the bait, Dylan flashed a foxy, fascinating smile on his delicate face.
"I need a wife to help me deal with those women who are desperate to become my wife."
Mia nodded in understanding at the man's words.
She did not expect the reason to be so.
Indeed, with Dylan's wealth and personal charm, there were probably thousands of women wanting to marry him.
However...
"Why me?"
That was the point!
Why the hell did Dylan choose her among the crowd?
At Mia's question, Dylan changed his sitting posture. Then, he flashed a bright smile at Mia's confused face. "I found that you're the only woman who's not interested in me."
"..."
The somewhat unexpected answer made Mia speechless.
However, she was quite satisfied with the answer.
Dylan wanted no involvement, which happened to be the only thing she could provide.
"When are we going to get married?"
Dylan was not Nova's biological son. In fact, Nova, Luke's mother, was a home-wrecker when she gave birth to Luke and indirectly caused Dylan's mother's death.
Mia did not know the particulars but was clear about the outline.
