Chapter 23 Final Result of Trial
"Mmm... no..." She struggled to draw out her hand and tried to push him away, but the man didn't even budge.
Donna gave up the struggle. It was useless and only fueled his aggression.
He lifted her hands above her head, and she felt a force wrapping around her wrists!
She struggled to raise her head and saw him wrapping the rest of the gauze around her wrists. Her arms were tied to the head of the bed!
"What are you doing, you lunatic! Let go of me!" She was so scared that her heart trembled, and her body struggled frantically.
He pinched her chin and panted, his voice arrogant and cold, "Remember to watch the news tomorrow noon. There will be something you want!"
"Huh? Mmm..." Before the information sank in, Karl lowered his head, kissed her on the lips, gagged her following speech.
During the crazy night, her weak body was tortured mercilessly. She was like a flower swaying in a storm.
...
It was already broad daylight when she woke up. Karl was no longer on the bed.
The long roll of gauze drooped disorderly to the carpet from the head of the bed. She rubbed her wrists swollen from the binding and struggled to sit up.
Someone pounded the door, followed by the shrewish voice of a maid, "Miss Cole, time to get up and work. If other maids got up so late like you, they'd be fired!"
She just sneered at the abuse from outside. How she wished she could be fired and kicked out!
But that weirdo would not let her go!
"Got it; I'll get up right away." She shouted towards the door in a hoarse voice.
She rubbed her sore waist, got out of bed on trembling legs, and walked into the bathroom.
...
"Miss Perez, rest assured, leave this to me; I'll get it done."
"Yeah, sure, consider it done." Mia hung up the phone.
Just then, Donna came down the stairs in a maid's outfit.
As soon as Mia saw her, the flattering smile on her face faded away instantly. It was replaced by sarcasm and meanness. "Hurry up, don't you know it will be a hectic day today?" She snapped.
Donna detected the contempt on her face. The forewoman had been treating her poorly since yesterday. Not a doormat, she sulked, "Well, you should ask Mr. Kent what he did last night."
... Mia was rendered speechless.
On second thought, she knew their master took Donna back but hadn't doted on her. Far from it, he treated her like a servant. The thought boosted Mia's confidence, and she just took Donna like a tool for their master to warm the bed, "Countless women are trying to climb on our master's bed every day. Miss Cole, don't cling to much hope, but the woman our master cares about the most is the noble Miss Perez."
Donna came downstairs to the forewoman and jeered, "Climb if you can."
"Argh..." Mia was pissed but fought back her anger. She would not bother to argue with Donna, who would suffer today.
"Follow me; there's work for you." Mia forced the words out of her gritted teeth and turned away.
Donna shook her head helplessly and followed the forewoman.
She knew that Mia meant to make things hard for her.
As expected, almost all the work in the morning was assigned to her.
Some work was unnecessary, but Mia forced her to do it. In the end, it was proved pointless.
Living under another's roof, Donna had to endure it.
The work in the morning was even more than that of the entire day yesterday.
She panted from exhaustion and sweated all over. When it was finally noon, her stomach was rumbling.
She thought there was no lunch for her. Unexpectedly, a maid came up and told her to have lunch with them.
Donna didn't believe they'd be so kind.
She would rather believe it was Karl's instruction. After all, if she starved and lost her head, he wouldn't be able to torture her and 'have' her properly during the night.
Donna gobbled her lunch quickly.
Since the master was not at home today, those servants ate unhurriedly.
Mia scorned at the sight of her speed eating, "Inferior people are like this and could never be as noble as Miss Perez. Look at her; eat like a pig."
Donna put down her bowl and shot back indifferently, "Yeah, I'm a pig, but what are those who are eating with a pig?"
"Argh..." Mia turned livid.
"Alright, I'm full; enjoy your lunch." Donna smiled faintly.
"Since you're full, go to work, think you that you can loiter around?" Mia squeaked.
"Got it, on my way." Following her speech, Donna got out of the servant's dining room.
...
...
Donna didn't go to work but rushed back to her room, turned on the TV, and sat in front of it.
She didn't forget what Karl claimed last night.
Remember to watch the news at noon; there would be something she wanted.
Every second of waiting was torturous to her. She constantly switched the channels and finally found one with the most news programs.
The news hadn't started, and commercials were broadcasted.
She waited in silence.
After five or ten minutes, the news at noon hours finally began.
However, a knock on the door ruined it all, rat-tat!
Mia's voice came in, "Miss Cole, weren't you going to work? Why are you hiding in your room? The servants have no noon breaks!"
Irritated by her voice, Donna immediately got up, came to the door, locked it up with a click, ignored the forewoman, and continued to watch the news in front of the TV set.
Mia let out a torrent of abuse but got no response. Exhausted, she quieted down.
She waited for a few more minutes before the anchor broadcasted the first news.
"Welcome to our channel; recently, famous domestic young entrepreneur Hamilton Adams has been trialed for smuggling, tax evasion, and other crimes. The trial was held in private, and the criminal was found guilty in court and sentenced to 40 years in prison. Experts have different opinions about the result, while some sources claim that he smuggled drugs in an amount deserving a death penalty. If there is any hidden secret, we'll continue to keep close attention."
As soon as she heard the sentence, her mind went black, and she lost track of the anchor's following broadcast.
The remote control fell off her hand and thudded on the floor.
She collapsed feebly as if her soul left her.
