Chapter 13 If I Love Her
Kevin seemed genuinely afraid that Christine would go back on her words, and thus, quickly went back to rewrite the files. When he returned, he put on the so-called protective clothes before entering the house without Mr. Wilson's reminder.
"Sign it!" He handed the divorce papers to Christine.
At this moment, Christine was sitting on the couch in the living room. There were refreshments and fruit on the coffee table, the TV was on, and Sheldon was sitting on her right side.
Although Sheldon maintained silent in the entire process and left the matter wholly to the woman to handle, his presence was not neglectable.
Standing in front of them, Kevin suddenly felt a coldness in his back. Christine and Sheldon, sitting side-by-side on the sofa, actually looked like a married couple.
Kevin cursed them inwardly.
He then fixed his eyes on Christine, witnessing the woman to read the papers and eventually sign her name in the blanks. Kevin finally heaved a sigh of relief.
The man never intended to give Christine any compensation. In the end, however, he had to provide her with two houses and 50 million yuan. He felt extremely aggrieved.
He swore to himself that he would get all the stuff back one day.
...
After two-month of being married, Christine and Kevin got divorced. While they were going through the procedures, staff in the local Civil Affairs Bureau rolled their eyes at them.
When they walked out of the bureau, Kevin beamed with joy. And It was sunny.
"Christine, before the baby is born, stay by Mr. Collins's side and serve him well. I am sure he will give you some money for the sake of the kid when he abandons you in the future."
"But it doesn't matter, does it? What you've taken from me is enough for you to lead a decent life for the rest of your time." Kevin put on a vicious expression and continued, "Christine, I wish you fucking luck!"
Kevin found Christine was looking at him with a faint smile and then furrowed his brows with annoyance. "Why aren't you saying anything? You are fucking speechless, aren't you?"
Christine revealed a sneer at the man's foul language. She could not believe she actually liked him for so long. How silly she used to be!
He used to pretend to be a gentleman in front of Christine and had never talked dirty in front of her.
"I don't make a reply to you because you don't deserve it." With that, Christine turned to leave.
Intending to take the fury inside out, Kevin rushed over to stop Christine by grabbing her wrist.
"Christine, who do you think you are? Do you think Mr. Collins will marry you? Stop daydreaming. With your humble background, you'll never be able to marry him. He's protecting you only because of your currently pretty face and his child in your belly!"
As they were standing before the busy Civil Affairs Bureau and Kevin's volume was loud, quite a few people's attention was drawn to Christine.
Kevin obtained a thrill from humiliating Christine.
His words were contumelious. However, Christine did not fly into a rage or hit back.
Christine said in a calm voice with a faint smile on her face, "Kevin, I'm telling you. First, I've never thought about marrying Mr. Collins. Second, even if I do want to marry him someday, I'll work hard to improve myself so that I can deserve him."
She pointed at her head with a finger and continued, "While you arm yourself with money, I arm my mind with knowledge. My confidence in my life comes from the fact that I have read more books than you have, and that I am fully committed to my work and quest for innovation."
After a short pause, Christine continued, "If I love him and want to spend the rest of my life with him, my humble background will not be a hindrance in my way of marrying him. Only someone like you, who puts interests over everything, will think so!"
