Chapter 13 Pike the Dark Heart

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Jane Sidney happily hurried to look back and saw Stephen Sidney walking over in a white shirt, white suit pants, and white leather shoes.

Seeing his sister in the Gucci's backless hollow-out tube-top red dress and Christian Louboutin 8cm-high red heels, Stephen was stunned by her beauty for a second, his grave expression softened dramatically, and his tone of voice was full of favor. "Jane."

"Stephen!" Jane distanced herself form Edward Pike, lifted the hem of the dress, and ran over to her brother without regard to that the high heels might make her fall. "You're here."

"Take care," Stephen replied in a mellow voice and quickened his pace, "You haven't gotten used to high heels yet, have you?" While speaking, he gently reached out one of his hands.

"Well, that's true." Jane grabbed his arm to support herself and then stamped her feet, indicating that she was indeed not accustomed to high heels.

Stephen had always been Jane's safe haven. With his presence, she felt much securer and more relaxed.

"You are indeed an enviable pair of brother and sister," Edward interrupted with a slightly gloomy expression.

Jane then realized that Edward and the woman called Berry were both on the scene.

"Hi, boss," Stephen greeted the man with a smile and then looked at Berry Jones, who was standing next to Edward and had loosened her hand from the man's arm. "Good to see you here, Miss Jones."

Jane looked at the three and became aware that her brother knew that woman. She decided to ask him about her later.

Edward looked at Stephen in his eyes and then moved his eyesight upon Jane. After seeing that the woman was holding her brother's arm, the gloom over Edward's face intensified a bit.

Staring at Jane, Edward said, "We have just had dinner, and I was going to drive Jane back."

"Thank you for taking care of my sister. I've just gotten off work from the research institute and dropped in here to pick her up." Stephen was wearing a bright smile, the look in his eyes extremely gentle. "Jane hasn't done anything to trouble you, has she?"

"No, she hasn't." Edward did not believe that Stephen had just stopped by to pick up his sister and thought the man had appeared for fear that he and his family would bully her.

Although Edward had known Stephen for seven to eight years, he still felt that he knew so little about the man.

It was not until yesterday that he came to know that the man actually had a younger sister.

"It seems that the way Stephen takes care of his sister is simply meticulous. Why does he care for her so much?" Edward thought to himself.

"Then, see you later." Looking at Edward, Stephen made a gesture of goodbye with a gentle smile, ignored Berry, and then turned to face Jane.

"Let's go," he said to his sister in an affectionate tone of voice.

Jane was genuinely happy that she could finally get away from Edward, who could easily make her feel pressured. She hurried to follow Stephen and walked away.

Edward witnessed how Jane looked at Stephen while she was leaving and the fondness in Stephen's eyes when he was staring at his sister.

"Edward." Berry fervently called the man's name, feeling glad that the woman named Jane, who had an ambiguous relationship with Edward, had gone. Temporarily, no one was competing for Edward with her.

"I have some business to handle. I have to go now." Edward nodded at the woman and turned to leave for the parking lot.

"What is it? I want to go with you." Berry was reluctant to let him go and followed closely behind.

Edward did not bother to reply to her nor command her to get lost but turned a blind eye to her stalking.

He took long steps and moved swiftly. Berry was wearing 8cm heels and naturally fell behind. When she arrived at the spot where Edward's car was parked regardless of her image and the risk of injuring her feet, Edward had gotten into the car and started it.

Berry stamped her feet in fury and thought, "It is because of that woman that Edward has changed his attitude to me. Jane Sidney? Bitch!"

The woman then took out her cell phone from her expensive Louis Vuitton handbag and dialed a number. "Investigate a woman called Jane Sidney for me."

"Yes, miss," the person at the other end of the line replied obediently.

While driving, Edward kept thinking of the scene that Stephen took Jane away.

"No."

The look in his eyes changed instantly, and he abruptly stepped on the brake. The wheels of the red Ferrari rubbed against the broad road and made a harsh noise.

Edward completely ignored the sound, pulled his vehicle up by the road, and turned on the phone system installed in the car.

"Sean Richard, buy Ashfran Manor for me."

"Buy it?" Sean Richard asked with a frown. He was acutely aware that Edward had no interest in things that other people had used, but that manor had been traded several times. Also, there were horrible rumors about it that...

"Buy it," Edward answered firmly.

"I see," Sean then hung up.

He was attending an auction, which was kind of lonesome and even ridiculous.

It was rumored that one of the biological sons of Cesare Borgia, the Duke of Valentinois, built the manor up. At that time, he came to Viaduct City to escape from being killed by his royal brothers. Thus, he deliberately chose the somewhat secretive northwest corner of the city as the location of his dwelling.

On the screen in the hall, pictures of Ashfran Manor were displayed. As the primary building of the manor, the castle was obviously in Italian Baroque style, and its dome, columns, top plate, and many other details inherited the significant features of western architecture since the Renaissance. The gable walls of the castle were bumpy, looking magnificent and fascinating in the sun. The entire building was giving off an aristocratic and free vibe.

However, those people who knew the inside appearance of the manor saw this place as a spooky spot. The most dominant color in the entire manor in vision was mahogany, which was easy for visitors to associate with blood. Overall, the place was once filled with violence and bloodiness, and no one dared to step into it at night.

Initially, there were members of the Borgia family living here. No one knew from when, but all the dwellers in this place disappeared all of a sudden. As a result, it became increasingly deserted, gloomy, and horribly. Finally, the government had to take it over.

The Viaduct City government, after many levels of discussion and applying for the permission from the superior, finally decided to auction the estate today, and all the income would be invested in the primary education in Viaduct City.

The government estimated that the manor should be worth 80 million US dollars as it was an ancient Italian Baroque building. Unexpectedly, however, it seemed that the wealthy and influential people of Viaduct City were not interested in it.

Edward was, of course, also invited by the government, but due to his busy schedule, he could not make it and therefore asked Sean to attend it on his behalf.

Standing on the stage and looking at the silent attendees, the auctioneer awkwardly did not know what to say.

There was not a single bidder!

"My boss is willing to offer eighty million dollars." Sean Richard withdrew his wandering thoughts and held up the number plate he was holding.

The auctioneer was pleasantly surprised, staring at Sean as if he were a lifesaver, "The No.58 bidder has offered a price of eighty million dollars, is there anyone who'd like to bid a higher price?"

None.

The attendees started to whisper.

"Who is this man's boss?"

"I don't know."

"It should be Pike the Dark Heart."

"Shush, don't say that name if you don't want to lose everything." The chatter then grew quieter and murkier.

Sean frowned slightly, casting a sharp glance at the whisperers.

"Eighty million dollars for the first time." The auctioneer looked at the passing time and shouted, hoping someone would make another bid to break the awkwardness of having only one bidder.
