Chapter 11 Love and Grievance (Part One)

Divorce?

Charlie was clear that she said that on impulse.

Her look betrayed her reluctance to divorce him.

Charlie laughed. "Zoey. You want to divorce me, yet you are still my wife at the moment. And as your husband, I have an obligation to care for you."

"Save your fake kindness. Just in the box, you were even unwilling to tell your friends that I am your wife."

"Yes, I'm a humble woman. I understand that I don't deserve you, a powerful man from the upper class. It isn't your wish that we get divorced?"

"I advise you to treat the burns on your hands first, or your future husband may mind that."

Zoey stared at Charlie, who wore a faint smile in disbelief. Charlie's harsh words made her realize how eager he was to divorce her.

At the thought of that, she furiously turned around to leave but was stopped by Adam. Charlie ordered Adam to take her to the car and drove her to Begonia Villa.

Depressed and desperate, Zoey nestled quietly in the back seat.

The air inside the car seemed to be stagnant and stifling.

Charlie loosened his tie and glanced secretly at the girl beside him. Her head drooped, her eyes are red. Charlie wanted to reach out to caress her head, yet the thought of their relationship dispelled his idea.

It was silent in the car on the way back to Begonia Villa. When they arrived, Charlie directly had his personal doctor cure Zoey's burn.

After applying medicine to the wound and bandaged it, the doctor left with others, leaving Charlie and Zoey alone.

Zoey drooped her head and quietly sat on the sofa. Charlie sighed and asked, "The monthly allowance I give you is not enough? Why do you insist on working?"

Zoey seldom defied him except for work, no matter how he persuaded her to quit.

Charlie had thought that the job in the cafe was her only one, but he had no idea that she had a part-time job at the hotel, which was dangerous for a beautiful girl like her.

"If I don't work, you will cover my expense?" Raising her head, Zoey glared at him.

"Yes, I'll cover that."

"Why?"

"Because you're my wife."

Zoey sneered. "Your wife? Charlie, if so, shouldn't we share a bed?"

"If I accept your money, I, naturally, have to do my duty as a wife. But, Charlie, will you sleep with me?"

Charlie stared at Zoey, who was like a thorny rose and changed the subject.

"That kind of place is not suitable for you."

At his words, Zoey exploded with grief and anger. Actually, she was a bad-tempered, vindictive woman, but she managed to soften her thorns for the man.

"The Kingsley Family isn't suitable for me either, so where should I go?"

She stared into Charlie's eyes, from which she saw his love for Caroline and cruelty to her.

"Charlie, I'm furious and sad... Who knows I am your wife? The last time your friends came home, they mistook me for your housekeeper. Why didn't you tell them?

"You never regard me as your wife in your heart."

"You're regretting?" Charlie asked.

Zoey did not reply because she was still reluctant to leave Charlie.

She wondered if it was because she owed Charlie a lot in her last life that she loved the cold-hearted man so much.
